If it is actually ‘constructive’ then this won’t be a challenge. If you feel it is a challenge, take some time to examine this as a possible trauma response. Being defensive about authentically ‘constructive’ feedback likely suggests you have not fully come to terms with some negative aspects of your ego. Be thankful for clear, constructive guidance by removing your ‘self’ from the equation and examining the advice objectively as a way to further your own self esteem through enhanced efficacy in your career. Aim for the ‘positive cascade’ effect where you begin to build self esteem by constructive learning. Mistakes, and experimentation can all be a normal and enjoyable aspect of your professional maturation. Embrace those who help you.

If your supervisor didn’t provide constructive criticism and you are fired or passed over for promotion, you’ll blame them wondering why they didn’t tell you what the problem was before.
