Providing feedback to employees does not need to be a negative experience for the employee or the manager providing the feedback. In my experience creating time to routinely checking with employees is essential to building relationships. I personally schedule meetings with my direct reports every 2 weeks to review projects, discuss family, share some laughs, and provide feedback. These meetings are regular, and we have good rapport so there is no reason for the buildup of anxiety because the boss called you to the office. I understand the goals of my team and provide feedback in the scope of continuous improvement and never as a punishment. With remote workers I always insist the camera is on and we are engaged in the conversation.
