Anything that shows you're being observant in the moment. All clients value someone who can think/create/contribute on his feet in new situations, while remaining calm and confident. It is a valuable nuance to cultivate that can be applied with anyone anywhere, personally and professionally.

I believe in doing research on the client beforehand which allows me to tailor my pitch specifically to their needs. If it’s a wedding I will look into the family and see how big or quaint it is, larger groups are harder to photograph, there usually is one in every shot, if they have ideas of large group photos I assure them I can edit out minor things like blinking yawning etc. it makes the busy overwhelmed bride and groom feel more secure. On the other end if it’s corporate promotional photos of the company, the people and products I use strategy to find out what the current look is and if they may seem to be going that way or wanting a fresh new look.

Tailoring your pitch is extremely helpful when working with different clients, especially when using today’s CRM’s. I have tailored my emails, workflows, and other resources inside my CRM to speak to each client directly, however always remaining on brand. For example, an email for a portrait client will include a prep guide that’s friendly tailored for them to prepare for their shoot, while the prep guide for headshot clients is tailored professionally for their needs. Furthermore, a client for a product advertising shoot wouldn’t receive a prep guide at all, instead, all of their corespondents is tailored towards more of the business’ interests.

Success story is a good way to present work. But instead of boasting about your projects it is better to tell what you have learnt about other Client's business and how this understanding allowed you to deliver good results.

One of the things I like to do when my portfolio is brought out at the request of the client, I try to tell how my photos helped the companies or what the photographs I took added to the company’s success, I don’t hide mistakes either there’s no shame in showing awful work. We see it much worse than it truly is anyway. I believe it shows humbleness as if to say I’m human like everyone else and I make mistakes. However o then show the retakes and let know it was not an extra fee, that I realized it didn’t come out right and I redid my work and then I show it. The prospective clients are usually highly impressed with this.

Some people would say "I had some photography experience" yet it is always like driving a simple sedan car compared to your Formula 1 driving. General rules are the same - speed, condintions and skills are totally different.

Process is such an important part of photography that many people don’t take into consideration. It is not just picking up a camera and shooting. A clear plan should include location (if outdoors what time of day would work best for lighting - if indoors, what artificial lighting is appropriate).
