One thing I have found helpful with using the SMART approach is there will be times because of unexpected challenges during the efforts to achieve measurable goals, that you will need to go back and re-evaluate your goals, because as challenges arise, goals will be impacted, the desired outcomes suddenly become unattainable, therefore a reset is necessary in order to save employee morale, and team energy.

One thing I have found helpful is understanding what the end goal is. And the end goal is ultimate guest satisfaction. In order to get there you have to be able to critically assess all situations. What are the potential problematic issues that can ruin the guest stay. You have to Identify all challenges, all obstacles that could be in the way of preventing the ultimate Vacation. Once you have targeted the challenges and obstacles that puts that ultimate vacation at risk, it’s time to have a critical path to success in developing an action plan to ensure that the things that can go wrong will not go wrong.

Once you have a logical understanding of your goals and have assessed the situation, it's time to implement strategies that drive your team forward. Choose methods that are proven to work in the hospitality industry, such as cross-training staff to enhance flexibility or using technology to streamline operations. Applying these strategies logically ensures that every action taken is purposeful and contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of your team, ultimately leading to a better guest experience.

One thing I have found very helpful while monitoring progress is to create competition around KPI’s and team performance. How rewarding is it to see teams engaged in trying to be at the top of their class. Healthy competition around KPI’s helps motivate, challenge, and can often be rewarding to a team.

Adaptability is one of the hardest attributes to harness. The key to it is to keep a growth mindset and stay open to change. As people age they figure out what they do and don't like and what they are comfortable with and aren't through life experiences. These experiences form the way you think and if you don't consciously work towards keeping a positive growth mindset, you more than likely are not going to be able to adapt as well to the world around you. You can continue to harness adaptability by growing an understanding of the world around you. With that understanding comes a wisdom and peace like no other. You begin to respond to the world in such a way that it nurtures growth and protects you from ignorance.
