I do not set Smart Goals. Here's what I do because it keeps me on track and focused. And, it helps me "Bend Reality". I got this secret from my good mentor Vishen Lakhiani. So I set a Big Hairy Audacious Goal (BHAG). That is my Big BOLD Vision. Something that scares the heck out of me. I set to achieve that vision within 3 - 5 years. Many underestimate what they can do in 5 years. Bill Gates once said, "Most people overestimate what they can do in one year and underestimate what they can do in ten years." Then every moment I get through out the day, I am grateful for my life, small business wins. Gratitude keeps me giving. Vision keeps me going. Try it. Eventually you too will BEND REALITY!

Tell him/her your vision and let them prove themselves. You can lead by telling. Or you can lead by showing. And if they make a mistake and are experiencing challenges with their team, make them realize this is normal and this is part of leadership. A great way to train your team is to inspect what you expect. They trains your team leader to do the same. And never ever ever ever accept excuses. Results is the name of the game. You can be hard but also show you really care.

When someone gives you feedback that relates specifically to a goal you've been working on, let them know that they hit the nail on the head! It will encourage them to give more specific feedback to others in the future, and to think about their own goals in terms of what feedback they might get in return.

The commitment and success of a team is only achieved with everyone's involvement in the quantitative goals and qualitative objectives of the area. Thus, the team's participation in defining goals as well as its involvement in the process brings a greater sense of belonging and responsibility and a greater vision of how each person's and the group's work impacts internally and on the client.
