Here's how you can determine if it's time for a career change after a layoff.

Crea un plan. Establece objetivos, desarrollar un currículum vitae y una carta de presentación, y establecer contactos con personas en tu nuevo campo. 5. Busca apoyo. Once I got over the initial shock, I regarded my layoff as the best opportunity. I decided to take the best parts of my job and the experience I gained to create my future role. Another factor that was important was ensuring I had autonomy over my future. I didn't want to experience another layoff. I was successful! If you can allow yourself the time, consider what you want to do next.

I look at it as if I don't have a desire to lead and empower the team I work with then as Jafferali said you are losing your passion and need to find something that will bring back that desire.

Reflect on your passions and interests. A layoff can be an opportunity to pursue what truly excites you. Ask yourself if your previous career ignited your passion or if there's another field that aligns better with your interests. This introspection is crucial for a fulfilling career change.

Take an inventory of your skills and experiences. Identify transferable skills that can be applied to other industries or roles. Recognising your strengths and how they can be utilised elsewhere helps you explore new career options where your talents are in demand.

Look at the jobs you've done and the projects you've led, and note the experience you've gained and the skills required to do them. How could you transfer those skills to your next goal? How do you perform under pressure, and how resilient are you? Be honest without being over-critical and draw up your list. Look at potential job descriptions as a guide to identify if there are gaps in your experience or whether you can benefit from reframing what you do.

After the layoff , first see the market trend.where the market is going and what are your skills and brush up your skills and also learn new technologies and skills that are required which are in trend.

Research current market trends to identify growing industries and job opportunities. Understanding which sectors are expanding can guide your career change decision. Aligning your skills and interests with market demands increases your chances of finding a rewarding and stable new career.

Leverage your professional network for insights and advice. Reach out to former colleagues, mentors, and industry contacts to gather information about potential career paths. Networking can provide valuable perspectives and open doors to new opportunities you might not have considered.

After my layoff, I knew I didn't want another job where someone was in control of my future. I did an audit of my skills and experience and talked to a coach. For the first time, I talked about what I wanted, not what I should want or what was expected of me. I decided my personal ambitions and goals were the priority. Looking back, it was a brave move, but the layoff presented me with the ideal opportunity to explore what else might be possible for me, and maybe if I'd spent too much time thinking about it, I would talk myself out of my decision. Talking to people whose opinions you trust is helpful, but don't allow them to project their fears onto you. This is all about you.

Consider your personal goals and long-term aspirations. Think about what you want to achieve in your career and how a change can help you reach those goals. Aligning your career with your personal objectives ensures that your next step is not just a job, but a fulfilling journey.

Of course it’s a career change. You’re leaving one culture and role and team. The question is do you know what you want to do and why. What I share with my clients is to take an inventory of what you liked best about the tasks, team, leaders and culture of the team you’re leaving - and/or what do you want differently. Just like the hiring manager is interviewing you for fit - you can do the same. I encourage you to engage with a qualified business coach. It can be emotionally draining and daunting to walk thru the stages mentally once your job is eliminated.
