Your well-being should always be a top priority.

As more individuals opt for early retirement, it's becoming increasingly crucial to be prepared for circumstances where your post-retirement work either helps maintain your retirement savings and investments or, if possible, grow those financial numbers to further support your goals. For those who are financially secure and seek post-retirement work to stay mentally engaged, this can be an excellent time to explore volunteering and mentoring roles. These opportunities allow you to share your wisdom with the younger generation while keeping you socially and mentally fulfilled. Prioritize finding roles that align with your personal and financial needs to ensure a rewarding post-retirement experience.

Most culture shifts align with changes within the organization - new leadership, new culture initiative, reorganization, etc. If you are a key leader within your organization, be mindful of the larger role that you play during times of change. The employees are watching you and other leaders to your reaction to the changes occurring. If you leave before the initiative is complete, others may view you as not agreeing with or aligning to the changes. This could impact your legacy and undo some of the impressions of the positive impacts you have had. And, as noted elsewhere, there are a number of personal considerations you must also navigate. In the end, the decision is yours and the priority should be you.

Countries like Lithuania see retirees outnumbering new job market entrants, while Germany, Japan, and Italy have 25% or more of their workforce aged 55+. In India, the workforce aged 40 and above increased from 42% in 2016-17 to 57% by 2021-22. They are eager to learn and embrace new technologies, debunking stereotypes of resistance to change.
