To make personal and professional decisions, I find it helpful to create pro and con lists. Simply write down all the pros and cons that come to mind for the decision you're considering. It's not just the number of pros and cons that determines whether it's a good decision; the weight of each item is also important. You can also go back to your list if you want to revisit a decision and do a post mortem. Learn from what you did not consider and continuously improve your decision-making. Additionally, considering "What if" scenarios can be very beneficial. By picturing a few hypothetical situations, you can gain clarity and make better decisions both personally and professionally. This strategy can also be effective in a team setting.

It can sometimes be quite overwhelming trying to make decisions between different theories or concepts, or about the research design of your study, when there are so many options and frameworks proposed by other academics. It's important to remember that a lot of choices may seem binary but don't have to be, for example if you use mixed methods research, employ interdisciplinary principles or take a more iterative approach that allows your conclusions to be informed by your data collection. Try to keep track of all your decision-making processes too, so that you can justify these choices and more easily account for potential limitations.

I have used my research learnings to make a daily chores worksheet for our home. :D It comes in handy when you want to argue against unpaid extra labour women have to put in despite being a working professional- this is also easy to let your partner understand rationally that they might be wrong. Oh there is a lot of power in being informed, they might as well say (if you are lucky) hey I didn't know you had to put in so much more effort - I will share the load. It can minimize the daily bickering - all you need is research skills to think and analyze any situation in life - even about choosing a career or a life partner - research can go a long way in helping one make an informed decision
