Communication is the root for developing relations and winning confidence of the boss. As they say communication is 7% words, 38% tonality and expression and 55% is body language. Taking lead from this matrix, communication is supposed to be clear, concise and respectful with confident and upright body posture. While communicating with boss professional things take precedence, that means he be kept well informed and updated about the tasks assigned, progress, challenges/ achievements and any limitations inviting his attention. One is supposed to give a good listening year for feedback, instructions and future course of action.
