In a general training I have found it helpful to go with a rule of three: 1. A short statement on the concept that is easy to remember 2. Content designed to simplify the concept into verbal bullet points 3. A story or metaphor to take the dry content and tie it to a narrative that allows the audience to visualize the concept. I find that this is a blanket process that recognizes the audience is made up of different learning types. The person that needs the concept, the person who needs the core information, and the person who needs a visual to tie this together.

Our world is now visual and interactive. Our leadership and training has to reflect that. Tech isn't a hinderance, it is the advantage we have in a world of collaboration.

Completely agree that continuous feedback helps to keep training both relevant and effective; however, if you’re writing content that someone else will facilitate, it’s important to include some methods to enable the facilitator to pivot if necessary.

The starting point to delivering a stellar learning experience is to understand the business KPI/ problem/ expectation. This would involve a thorough understanding and to even clarify if training is the right solution. The next step is to then identify specific activities, simulations, exercise, case studies etc. which creates an environment to explore the skill, possibly make mistakes, understand what specific action to be taken to enhance the skill. The design should include feedback, without fail. Mechanism in which facilitator or learning peers are able to provide feedback on practice activities. For example, a role play, followed by feedback. Just the above 3 will ensure that learners go back with a meaningful learning experience.

The Kilpatrick model for training evaluation is a good starting point. I have used this in a high potential leadership program to measure growth and development over time in leadership competencies determined as key for organizational health and business success. 360 assessments can also be helpful in tracking needs and progress for individual development as well as in aggregate for organizational trends.

Solicit feedback from participants and regularly update and refine the training content and delivery methods. By integrating these elements, you can create dynamic and impactful training experiences that keep learners engaged and drive meaningful learning outcomes.

As a professional trainer I must make sure that the processes are avant-garde and their success and impact are a great contribution to the apprentices and/or the organization. The completion rate, the satisfaction rate, the applicability rate of knowledge and the impact on performance are important variables to take?into?account.

Based on my experience of 26+ years in the Marines and 13 years as a program manager and facilitator of a high potential leadership development program, the benefits of facilitating communities with deep and strong relationships and life long connections cannot be overstated. Communities build trust and familiarity which accelerates shared understanding, problem solving, and decision making. I cherish the relationships I still have with my Marine colleagues. I've even observed the use of WhatsApp groups for this purpose. Implementing these strategies can also enhance networking opportunities and expand your professional circle.

It’s not unreasonable for learners to want to know exactly where they are, and how much progress they still have left in their learning journey.

Learn to reflect on your practice. Personal reflection will help you make an objective assessment of your model, identify what works well and what does not. Also equate your success level and benchmark with others. Then plan to make a change that is better informed.

Staying curious and keeping up with the news and new ideas/methods/approaches are also key to delivering high-quality and impactful training. Also not only keeping your toolbox up-to-date but making sure you work with the right kind of tools: ones that offer valuable insights tailored to your audience and work on measuring data and the reality of participants, instead of personalities or assumptions. When working with teams and team dynamics, I recommend Global DISC and Growth Zone, the only tools that can measure and visualise cognitive diversity, psychological safety and motivation and as such can be a powerful, data-driven starting point to meaningful training experiences.
