Ok that has to happen but ask yourself the question about how you achieve…does it reflect also success by working within the value set of the organisation? Or does your approach leave a trail of destruction behind you. The former will get you further unless you have no concerns about living with/contributing to a toxic culture.

When you are within an organisation or when you have left, what would people say about you? What culture did you create and live by? High performing organisations, will deliver high quality, safe and effective healthcare, but not at any cost. A learning environment that your workforce can thrive in will benefit everyone long term.

Use data! Showcase how you have improved KPIs important to your sector. Examples: patient satisfaction scores; system efficiency, patient velocity; clinician attrition and retention rates. Be prepared to speak about how you specifically contributed to these improvements. What was your strategy?

Do not be afraid to take on the challenging aspects of your profession. Throughout my experience training as an associate-level therapist, I was hungry for the "difficult" clients that many at the same level as myself were intimidated by. That desire to be challenged shows you have a willingness to learn, improve, and help others do the same.

Reflect on your accomplishments, skills, and the specific ways you’ve added value. Have you implemented a new patient care protocol that improved outcomes? Did you lead a project that saved the organization money or enhanced operational efficiency? Document these achievements with measurable results to clearly demonstrate your impact. Knowing your value positions you as a confident and indispensable asset to the organization.

-Engage! Participate across your organization. Get involved in efforts that affect an entire system and not just your department. -Ask questions. Partner with colleagues in other departments who can offer insight on matters affecting employees in your department. Risk, Patient Relations, Benefits, Compensation, HR, IT, etc. Demonstrate respect and appreciation in your inquiries. -Say thank you. Demonstrate gratuity for a job well done or an assist. Take that moment to ensure well deserving folks feel seen.

Attend industry conferences, join professional associations, and participate in networking events to expand your connections. Mentorship relationships can also be invaluable; a mentor can provide guidance, support, and even advocate for your promotion. Building a robust professional network shows that you are well-integrated into the industry and prepared for higher responsibilities.

Building relationships with supervisors, co-workers and external customers is a strong foundational skill that will put you a step ahead. In building those relationships, you can showcase your abilities to provide solid and consistent support for their needs.
