Years ago one of my co-workers asked why I tell stories. In my response I started with "it's a teaching method", then I asked, "do you remember any of my stories"? Their reply was "not all of them but I do remember some". To which I replied "that's why, because you are more likely to understand and recall the story over a boring technical discussion on specifications, cost, features and benefits". So where did it come from? My grandmother was my inspiration. I'd always tell my team, "if my Italian grandmother, who didn't finish grade school can't understand it, it's too complex".
