Here's how you can continually learn and evolve as a leader in your field.

Continually evolving as a leader requires a commitment to lifelong learning, self-reflection, and adaptability. Engage in continuous education through courses, reading, and attending seminars to stay informed and inspired. Regularly assess your strengths and weaknesses, seeking feedback from peers and team members to enhance self-awareness. Embrace change and foster a culture of innovation by staying open to new ideas and adapting your leadership style as needed.

Working at Microsoft for 30 years, there were 3 different CEO's over my career - Bill Gates, Steve Ballmer, and now Satya Nadella. One of the statements that Satya has said repeatedly is that he embraces a "Learn it All" mindset as opposed to the "Know it All" mindset that many tech companies encourage. I LOVED this statement and have made it one of my core principles.

The key is to find the way you learn the best. And then make that a habit. Do you learn the best by reading, listening or watching? Ask yourself what you are curious about. And find podcast, (audio) books or other resources to inspire you. Accept that in a busy everyday life of leaders, it is difficult to find time for long deep dives. For me, I enjoy podcasts and audio books. I listen to them when I'm on the go, or out for a walk. I accept that I won't remember everything, but that something will stick - and something is better than nothing.

Follow the steps;- 1.Pursue Continuous Education: Enroll in relevant courses and attend workshops to stay updated on the latest trends and skills in your field. 2.Read Widely: Regularly read books, articles and research papers to gain new insights and stay informed about industry developments. 3.Seek Mentorship: Find mentors for guidance and constructive feedback, leveraging their experience to enhance your own growth. 4.Network Actively: Engage with peers, join professional organizations, and participate in industry events to exchange ideas and collaborate. 5 Reflect and Self-Assess: Regularly evaluate your performance and leadership style to identify areas for improvement and set personal development goals.

I believe that continuous learning and growth are the cornerstones of exceptional leadership. Leaders must be adaptable, resilient, and innovative in today's fast-paced and ever-changing business landscape. By embracing a growth mindset, fostering emotional intelligence, and prioritizing effective communication, leaders can inspire their teams and drive their organizations forward. A commitment to personal and professional development enhances leadership effectiveness and cultivates a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.

Seek out feedback as soon as possible. Facilitated a meeting? Prepared a report for the first time? Led a client-call? Reach out to a colleague directly following the call or meeting and get specific feedback while it's fresh for everyone.

One of the key ways to learn... ...is to teach. So being a mentor will always benefit both you and the mentee. You will reflect on your experience in new ways, articulate ideas and be asked questions that make you reflect. This is the beauty of mentoring others. You see your ideas being refined while someone else learns from you. I have gained so much from mentoring others, and feel very grateful for the experience. This is also the reason that I recommend all leaders to have some time set aside with all employees in your team every month. You become a better leader, and your teams becomes better as well.

To effectively mentor and teach others, focus on identifying potential mentees and establishing clear objectives and structured plans for their development. Build trust, provide constructive feedback, and encourage self-reflection and networking. As a mentor, lead by example and monitor progress, adjusting goals as needed.

The best mentor/mentee relationships learn from each other; sharing experiences, insights and reflections. Remaining humble and curious will enhance the learning opportunities and the benefits that these sessions generate. Mentoring more than one mentee advances individual and organisational learning, while developing the leaders abilities as an effective and trusted mentor.

Outside the comfort zone is where great things happen. When exposed to change, you develop inherent skills for generating creativity, innovation and resilience. In a new era of artificial intelligence, your natural intelligence needs a space to grow, move forward, and lead unprecedented social changes. For example, books like "Leaders Eat Last" by Simon Sinek and "The Innovator's Dilemma" by Clayton Christensen offer deep insights into effective leadership and disruptive innovation. Engaging in peer learning groups can significantly enhance your leadership skills. These groups, which can be formed within your organization or through professional networks, provide a platform for exchanging ideas, discussing challenges, and brainstorming solutions with fellow leaders. This environment fosters diverse perspectives and innovative problem-solving approaches.

Many of the most progressive organisations recognise the value of continuous employee development, which advances the organisation's capability and they allocate a budget for this learning. As a leader, do you allocate a time budget for these activities and have a deliberate approach to continually enhance and expand your knowledge and skills?

As an introverted leader, I spend a lot of time reflecting. This reflection often includes receiving feedback from those whom I supervise and from the one who supervises me. My goal is to always be a leader who listens and makes applicable changes as needed. I enjoy pushing myself to become better. You must reflect so that you can charge forward.

Ensure that you connect with people outside your sector. Don’t get trapped into believing that you should just focus on your work and your sector. Great leaders broaden their horizons and experiences continually. Spending time visiting a different kind of business can be illuminating and richly developmental. Nurture your curiosity, network and step outside of your comfort zone… Also, don’t forget to ensure you have time for stillness, for reflection and for contemplation. Leadership is not about running, 24/7… time to reflect is not a luxury, it is a necessity.

Build strong relationships with individuals who can provide valuable insights and guidance to help you grow and develop as a leader. These relationships can be with mentors, coaches, colleagues, or even friends who have experience and knowledge in areas where you may need support. By surrounding yourself with people who can offer different perspectives and advice, you can gain new skills, learn from their experiences, and expand your own leadership capabilities.

I'm a big fan of using Google's 70/20/10 model of innovation to guide personal learning. With so many options available, this model creates structure to help you identify the areas you should in invest in. Here's a simple breakdown: 70% of your time - focused on baseline work. Consider: what skills do I need to develop to meet expectations in my role? 30% of your time - focused on innovating for your team Consider: what knowledge can I acquire to improve processes and create efficiencies? 10% of your time - focused on growing your role Consider: what new areas can you learn to create even more value in your role?

Cultivate a Growth Mindset?? Embrace Lifelong Learning- Adopt the belief that skills and intelligence can be developed through dedication and hard work. Encourage Innovation- Foster an environment where creativity and innovation are encouraged and rewarded.
