Joining the IT world felt like I'd stumbled into a secret code everyone else knew! It was overwhelming, but everyone seemed to get lost at first. So I focused on learning bit by bit, asking questions whenever I got stuck (which was a lot!), and relying on the awesome people in IT who were once beginners too. Even small victories, like finally installing that program that kept fighting me, were a huge win. It showed me I was learning and on the right track!

Learning new things is expected and mandatory in this industry. You may be required to learn new concepts or programs or apps or anything new in the IT field. So learning how to grasp them is important. Programmers often are good at pesudo code if they need to learn new coding, Blue Teams often have to pick up on new Firewalls or Linux based systems so having knowledge on that is important. All in all, it's always learning and improving and it may feel tiresome, but it's definitely rewarding.

Finding a mentor in the field is invaluable. Their guidance and insights can make all the difference in navigating the complexities of our industry. Personally, I was fortunate to have a mentor who played a pivotal role in my career, providing me with not only knowledge, but also the confidence to face challenges. Her support and expertise have been instrumental in shaping my career path, and I encourage everyone to seek out mentoring opportunities in their workplace or through professional networks.

Always be willing to learn from everyone. From seniors to even new hires. You may never know who has knowledge in something that you don't.
