Before you can select suppliers and contractors, you must have a clear understanding of your project's specific requirements. This involves a thorough analysis of the mining operation, including the materials needed, the scope of work, and the specialized skills required. Consider the environmental impact and regulatory compliance as well. This initial step lays the foundation for identifying potential candidates who can meet these needs efficiently and effectively. Know your scope. A well detailed scope is important, ideally you want to be able to clearly and uniformly communicate the requirements effectively and consistently to various vendors. This ensures both that multiple vendors do thier best at bringing bids and proposals. It makes it much easier to compare the quality of these bids in future. Standard documents we use are RFQs/RFPs (Request for Proposal), however the most important element is the design criteria. One item to note is okay to engage with vendors before an RFP is fully finished, and not all projects need an extensive RFP but there should at least be a design criteria that clearly communicates required specs and most importantly the needs.

Once your needs are clear, it's time to research potential suppliers and contractors. Look for those with a proven track record in mining engineering projects similar to yours. Networking with industry peers and visiting past project sites can also provide valuable insights. This step is about creating a shortlist of candidates who are a good fit for your project.

Evaluating the expertise, capabilities as this is special kind of projects which needs the expertise. Any lack in expertise for specialised projects will be very difficult to catch up in specialised projects execution. Any missing of sequence due to lack of expertise will hamper the overall project. Technical capability, prior experience, efficient team, quality control of materials do play a major role in selection.

Network the potential company with the decision makers in your company so it's company group decision not just the company's point of contact with the contractors or company in question.
