It's a matter of fact many students choose Civil Engineering by chance rather than choice. But with studying more about it and gradually developing interest makes to get delve in deeper insight of civil engineering concepts and fundamentals. It's better to have Master's degree in Structures due to vastness of civil engineering. First to complete bachelor degree with some good internships. Then to work for atleast a year to better understand the actual situation in field. And then to go for Masters in Structures allows to research in the topic he/she already familiar with in actual and will also increase person's chances of getting placed. Then persue a carrier in structural engineering to be an expert.

Follow a rigorous education path by obtaining a bachelor's degree in civil or structural engineering from an accredited institution. Pursue advanced degrees such as a master's or Ph.D. to deepen your knowledge and specialize in a particular area of structural engineering. Continuous learning through courses and certifications keeps you updated with the latest industry standards and innovations.

The 1st year of Structural Engineering is dedicated to amongst other subjects to Simple Statics, which in truth is not too simple & Strength of Materials. Simple statics involves the drawing up & understanding of the bending moment & shear force diagrams. Strength of Materials outlines simple & complex stress systems going from the direct stresses to shear/torsional stresses. The interface shear stresses of composite structural materials is also delved into. Then statically determinate hoop & longitudinal membrane stresses introduce shell structures. With this good analytical stress & simple statics ground work, students towards the final phase of the course could then delve into structural programes & comment of the efficiency of these.

I think professional experience is as important as the educational path in becoming a subject matter expert in structural engineering. Through education, you learn the fundamentals, but professional experience allows you to gain a deeper understanding of these fundamentals and see how structures work in real life. The longer you stay in the field and the more complex problems you face, the more valuable insights you gain, gradually becoming an expert in the field.

It is, indeed a great experience. I do particularly enjoy this world, cause the limit on this is the creativity each has. Every project has its own challenges and always there are a number of ways to solve your structure considering construction time, cost, circumstances of the city (equipment available, i.e.) once I had to export even minor tools as those where not available at that city. Said that academic preparation is essential that provides you with the bases, while street experience and challenges are the ones that makes you grow up professionally

Following a bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, this should be followed by work experience in a structural design office. Possibly nowadays, the need could arise to go for a master's degree, not so common in the past. This has nowadays arisen as there is not too much time dedicated to engineering subjects as previous. New topics have crept into the engineering course such as climate emergency eating into the course hours. Unfortunately even engineering economics is nowadays not undertaken. Once this 4/5 years design experience is undertaken it's time to undertake the professional/chartership exam, which on receiving your chartership is evidence, that the structural engineer can now act as a design project engineer.
