As #LGBTQHistoryMonth comes to a close, we're proud to share the foundation's reflections on our movement's latest chapter – our 2023 annual report. In 2023, #LGBTQ Americans experienced some of the most severe attacks we've faced in a generation. But when we shine a #spotlight on the advocates who met those challenges with renewed energy and resolve, we see pockets of #progress across the country – and signs of brighter days ahead.

We're thrilled to see the development of the Colorado Capitol News Alliance led by KUNC and The Colorado Sound with Colorado Public Radio, Rocky Mountain PBS, The Colorado Sun, and #RockyMountainCommunityRadio — an exciting expansion of the Capitol Coverage reporting project that the foundation's #GayAndLesbianFundForColorado has supported for more than 20 years!

Coming out as gay on a small, Christian campus taught me hard lessons about activism early on - meeting folks where they're at, gaining new allies, and being open to dialogue and not judgement. What inspires is a positive?#vision?for the future – one that holds the door open for others to join. This week has been a chance to reflect on the many reasons we’re grateful for Joe Biden’s decades of service to our country. To add to that list: I’m particularly grateful to President Biden for leading the most pro-equality federal administration in history. ? For just a few examples of the Biden-Harris administration’s impact on?#LGBTQ?Americans: ? – Starting with an executive order on day 1, integrating sexual orientation and gender identity into nondiscrimination protections across the federal government – Overturning the previous administration’s ban on?#transgender?military service – Recruiting and appointing record numbers of LGBTQ federal employees – Nominating the first openly LGBTQ cabinet official and first openly transgender official for Senate confirmation – Hosting the largest?#Pride?celebration in White House history – Enshrining protections for 700,000 LGBTQ families through the Respect for?#Marriage?Act ? I was in the audience when President Biden signed the RMA, which felt like a full-circle moment for a leader who had been out front on marriage equality and helped bring the country where it is today. ? I’m grateful to have a friend and champion of the LGBTQ community in our country’s highest office. Cheers to President Biden’s incredible career.

On Wednesday, First Lady Jill Biden hosted hundreds of #LGBTQ families, #transgender youth, and community members for a Pride Month celebration at The White House. The Gill Foundation was honored to support White House #Pride, celebrating President Biden and the administration's ongoing commitment to LGBTQ Americans. The same day, President Biden issued a statement pardoning thousands of LGBTQ veterans who were convicted under past military laws that discriminated on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity. Today marks 9 years since the U.S. Supreme Court's decision in #Obergefell made marriage equality the law of the land. It's only fitting that 2 new reports were published this week documenting the impact of #MarriageEquality: 1?? Boston Consulting Group (BCG) found that same-sex marriage has contributed up to $125 billion to the U.S. economy over the past 20 years. ?? https://lnkd.in/gPssSe4V 2??
