Far too many firms are basing their hiring only on reactive/immediate needs. Which makes sense in short-term practical terms but is missing an opportunity for longer term planning and alignment. Consultative global TA organizations should also be driving conversations around future hiring based on strategic organizational needs. Involving TA in workforce planning efforts ensures they have a clearer picture on present and future talent needs. It also provides your TA team both the opportunity to share intel on current market rates as well as allow them to build out talent pools of future talent needs. A practice that will absolutely improve your firms' ability to more efficiently identify and secure such talent as those needs arise.

Sadly there are not enough companies that take a bigger picture/long-term view when it comes to hiring. They focus on qualifying talent based on a well-defined and all too often lengthy wish list of past experiences and proven skills they believe are required to ensure a candidate will be successful in a role. They want a "know it all", been there done that candidate. The more progressive and smarter firms do use a minimum level of experience and certain baseline skills requirements when defining what's required for a role. But they are also wisely evaluating a candidate's demonstrated ability to learn, to grow, to raise their own bar of performance and recognize where they can improve. They make investments in talent for the future.
