Does creativity and precision have to be at odds? I think in terms of design, where the correct notion might be creative versus industry standards or current designs. The point here is that design starts as creative with unknowns regarding utility and later becomes good practice and then best practice through a Bayesian process. Often, the creative process is on a new design with minimum standards or when some constraints are introduced, such as when the standard requires novelty. Much literature has been written about innovation, yet imitation is faster and less costly.
