I absolutely agree to this. I’m basically a very creative person and I believe this quality is became my strength while transitioning into the product management career. As a writer, I used to create really appealing content cover creatives for my articles for which I got huge appreciations. For some, its a gift but for some it comes as a learning. During my post grad in Product Management, I topped the Product Design module and was bagged an award. That’s where I slowly realised my strength and found my hidden skill. A big part of communication is listening. While conveying you’re findings to different stakeholders is essential, we can learn a lot more if we also give them the space to add their special perspective to the narrative as well- this includes listening and observing the users carefully so that we can read between the lines and truly understand who they are and what are their pain points and also the other stakeholders who may have the understanding of the user from the lenses they operate from. It’s only when we collate all our insights can we get as much of a holistic understanding of a user as possible.

The purpose of UX Research is to get such a deep understanding of our users, that we can summarise them in a few sentences for anyone to understand. Not all stakeholders need to know the details of users, their wants, needs etc. but we as designers need to have a deep understanding of them to advocate for their needs.

Recognizung the different terminology used for the same processes, skillsets or applications of them in different settings. For example working in NGOs deaing with informal learning for youth I employed many if the thought processes, research methods and empathising excercises that I do now in UX design. They were called different or were applied to different circumstances, but the base knowladge or premises were quite similar. So recognizing the base current underlying these situations and skill aplication and how they were just called differently. This can greatly help in transfering experience gained in other niches and situations to your current one.
