Firstly we have to define the problem. To be effective we must understand the scope and know the interest of stakeholder. After defining problem, we can create foundation of our analysis if it requires modeling or can be fixed with an algorithm. Then you can have a strong foundation for your analysis.

In the real world, these problems are cross-cutting and multidisciplinary, therefore, strategies to promote clear dialogue among different specialists are crucial. However, it's not just about collecting any data; it's about collecting the right data. Quality and relevance are paramount. Quite often in a real world projects, you can't influence a lot of things, and you can't always have all the dimensions you want to use to predict something (if you are building a model for forecasting). Also, too much data and too many dimensions can lead to overfitting, and it can become hard to evaluate and maintain a data pipeline.

Among so many things, having a domain knowledge helps in answering some of this questions. It is very important to analyze your data for the purpose to uncovering insights. There are several things we look for when we analyze and prepare our data for modeling. One thing that I look for is understanding how null or missing values are captured on the data. For example 0 (zero) could mean a value on some data, while it could mean a missing value because 0 (zero) blood counts could represent missing records and need to be addressed accordingly.

Good analysts define the issue; therefore there analysis is much better and can improve business. But the bests analysis do both: from start the define the issue and they check the end-2-end process and understand, how the results are used later. In my 20 years of experience I have seen so many analysis, which in the end could not be used/implemented. Therefore: Check for the implementation directly in the beginning

Before analysing the data, it is important to understand the problems very well and break down the complex problems into subproblems. Also finding out challenges into each subproblem is also important. Then researching effective techniques and algorithms to be applicable can be the next step. Further, a careful analysis on data and features enhance the performance of the predicting model.

In my opinion culture is very important. Data analysts should create a culture, where it is more important to have good results, which can be used, rather than having perfect results, which take a lot of time and ressources and won't be used in the end. Trying to reach a 100% result from start, typically kills the analysis. Start small, learn and fail fast should be the credo for an analyst. Good results are created in the interaction of the data analytics team and the business team, which is going to use the information. Therefore it is better to discuss about quick results, which might be perfect, than 100% results, which take a lot of time.
