Here's how you can apply continuing education knowledge effectively in your day-to-day work.

Actively put yourself in the driver’s seat, anticipating and looking forward to charge and the positive impact it will have. This is the key to having a growth mindset and it will take you much further than just rolling with the waves as they come at you.

Phrasing this as "Embrace Change" makes it feel big and daunting. Bringing fresh insights from continuing education is about small bites. What is a daily or weekly habit you can bring back into your team/organization to adjust course? Think of it as approaching a bend in the road while driving. To navigate and embrace the change in direction, it would be best to make a small adjustment to the steering wheel.

Sometimes, after learning something new, it is wise to set anti-goals—things we should not do—actions or decisions that are counterproductive to our outcomes. Then, set your team towards defining new goals and processes to achieve the desired changes. Consider setting goals or applying your learning to smaller parts of the organization. Identify areas where a goal change would add value and minimize impact to other places.

One of the most important functions of a leader is continuous training of their employees. In addition to various courses and recommendations, a great practice is training provided by the leader themselves. If you are studying something or undergoing professional training, share this knowledge with your employees. Conduct workshops and training sessions for your team, discuss the acquired knowledge, and encourage the application of this knowledge in their work. Such an approach will cultivate an environment of continuous learning, and when your employees themselves become leaders, they will adhere to these same principles.

As leaders, one of our biggest contributions is story telling. Weave your new learnings into conversations and discussions throughout your schedule. Use these conversations to reinforce your learning for yourself and your team.

I always strive to incorporate one, and only one, concept from any kind of learning into my habits and goal-setting actions. If I am not ready to accept a change, then maybe it isn't the right time to learn something new, which is OK. Don't try to bring the whole experience back with you. Look for one or two concepts that you can apply immediately, and then plan to revisit the rest in the future.
