It should never be us vs. them, but us together vs. the deadline. By focusing on shared objectives, teams can work more effectively together and meet project deadlines.

I remember a project when falling behind the schedule was hampering morale of my team. As the leader of my team I made sure that team understands the reality and accepts it. It depends a lot on how the leader behaves. I believe in "finding ways to make it happen" and that lead to dynamic conversations within the team. It is important to work on team morale to get the project back to normal functioning. Can share for my ambit of Learning that the best way to deal with the issue is rather than going into volcanic eruption mode and taking the team in it , it's better to pull up the socks ,dug the funnel across CFT's , go for immediate RCA where the plug is loose, if required discussion & action ,how hard it may be have to be taken if relevant & communicate transparently to the partner .

Process is not a magic bullet. A process that worked in previous project/s may not work in current project. If a project is falling behind the schedule it is obvious that the process is not working. Be creative and be ready to come up with entirely new process. Experiment with it, refine it with help of your team. I did it once by combing three totally different planning techniques to come up with an accurate gantt chart. It helped a lot. Do not be possessive of your processes. Ask teams if it is working. Take your team into confidence otherwise no process will succeed. LUMA techniques combined with agile methodologies of scrum iterations is very combination to find out dependencies and define priorities

How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time. Make sure the pieces of your project are ‘bite size’ and achievable. It seems like some of the best projects I’ve worked on have goals that are able to be completed at the rate of several a day. Sounds odd, but it feels like you get more done when you check more boxes in a given amount of time. That, in turn, makes people want to accomplish more.

Clarity is needed not only within the team but also outside the team. As a product leader it is your moral and professional responsibility to make sure that the stakeholders are aware of the status. Do not mince the words. I have failed in the past because I was not clear in my communication. Be clear and straightforward even if it means conveying "project is not on schedule" Truth prevails always and is always appreciated. Make sure that all the charts, timelines and goals are accessible to all the stakeholders, teams. Make sure to update stakeholders whenever there is any change in them.

Clear communication solves maximum issues. When the deliverable are assigned and timeline is also fixed. Few things need to be asked 1. What you are supposed to do 2. What is your current status 3. What is your action plan 4. What support you need

Communication in program management is extremely important. It needs to be exceptionally balanced, especially in demanding situations. Socializing with all participants through one-on-one conversations can help. Good communication with the governance body is particularly important. Clearly defined escalation norms and paths are of great importance.

Be clear on what is needed to get back on track and be very clear on what you now expect from the Team and their accountability

Again, basic PM tools like Gantt chart and critical path analysis are of the biggest help. There is no need for complex tools as sometimes the most simple and known tools are of the biggest help. This is the basic of the PM skillset.

Continuous monitoring is tricky without a clear understanding of time sink, for this you measure the project with both wanted vs. unwanted outcomes. (Instead of measuring just wanted outcomes alone, specify the alternative outcomes that were achieved as part of the project) Have whatever project management tools show both wanted and unwanted outcomes of the work that's been ongoing. Put up a probability of potential outcomes in the mix, too, so that you can steer the project based on those.

Using say using a tool like Microsoft Project monitor each new step on a timely and accountable basis. Be very prepared to kick bottoms as needed to ensure planned progress

Remind yourself that it's okay to compromise if need be. Look at all options and recognize where compromising may resolve part of the issues or delays. More than often you need to be ready to switch gears and compromise to get back on track.

If the project is really important, offer the key and essential workers a shorter working day, six days a week, to get on top of the slow-down.
