I've managed several team members who struggled with deadlines, and here's what worked for me: 1. I taught them how to use Outlook Calendar reminders to stay on track with tasks. This small step helps them manage their time better. 2. I establish SMART goals around timely task delivery in their performance appraisals, linking it to their incentive payout. This creates accountability and motivation. 3. I hold cadence meetings to monitor progress, and in more serious cases, I even implemented daily check-ins to manage tasks closely. And always talk about how to improve their efficiency and what additional support they might need. Make their success yours ??

tart by addressing the issue privately and calmly, focusing on the impact their missed deadlines have on the team and the project, rather than assigning blame. Use specific examples to highlight the issue, such as, "I noticed that the last two reports were submitted after the deadline, which caused delays in the next phase of the project." Ask open-ended questions to understand their perspective, like, "Is there anything that’s been preventing you from meeting deadlines?" This shows empathy while gathering useful information. From there, collaborate on solutions. Offer support, whether through better time management tools, adjusted expectations, or additional resources.

Provide constructive feedback by addressing the missed deadlines privately and promptly. Focus on the behavior, not the person, and explain how it impacts the team and project. Ask about challenges they're facing and offer support. Collaboratively set clear expectations, agree on solutions, and follow up to track progress and ensure accountability.

If a team member keeps missing deadlines, start by addressing it directly but empathetically. Have a one-on-one conversation to understand if there are underlying issues—sometimes it's workload or miscommunication, other times it’s simply time management. Set clear expectations moving forward. Be firm: outline the impact missed deadlines have on the team and the project. Offer solutions like setting mini-deadlines or adjusting priorities, but make sure they understand this isn’t negotiable. It’s about accountability, not blame. Feedback should be firm, clear, and solution-oriented.

I have managed staff who miss deadlines and my first step is to deep dive into what may be causing the issue. Sometimes team members have caring responsibilities or other pressures that stop them from meeting deadlines. Once the reason has been established then arrange the following: 1. Set small goals e.g. setting up a calendar invite that reminds them to submit work. 2. Check in regularly and agree a cadence that would work for them. 3. Review the workload to see if the work is causing an issue and if the work needs to be redistributed or reassigned completely. 4. If there are skills issues then close the gap by recommending training. Finally reiterate that you are a team and in this together.
