Having alternative supplier is the key because sometimes the vendors cannot keep track of the demand which results in material shortages and if you do not have alternative suppliers your project may stall or get delayed. Over the years my key strength has been to develop new and alternative supply lines., which involves a lot of sampling & testing and getting approvals from your production teams. This certainly a very slow process but it is better to access risk early and mitigate it quicker rather than getting caught in the supply interruptions.

I have been largely emphasising the criticality and importance of effective communications in today’s organization. This has gained further importance post Covid scenario and considering the Business Continuity Process and to deal with any disruption. You need to be in constant touch with your Supply Chain Partners so as to get the first hand information. Supplier partnership in progress and collaboration goes long way to determine the success. Do proper hand holding.

Yes communication is very important as well. Sometimes the vendor would themselves suggest alternative options as they are more aware of the market conditions and situation of their competitors.

Actually I'm Totally Agree with that, perhaps also suppliers regularly site visits could help in being aware of your order status and recognize any prospected problems earlier

I do agree with having multiple Supplier to reduce the risk of delay..having annual agreement with 2 or 3 suppliers to cover the needs.

Actually I've implemented this before and I've gained overall a wonderful benefits of making swaps in my team so by time each of them gained a great benefit and experiences. I've gained a perfect control over the whole team. And the firm gained a great Department that never affected by any of the team leaves or getting vacations
