Supplier past experience on similar product(s) , reputation in market (Which is built up based on previous client satisfaction) are indeed vital to mitigate the risks. Never underestimate this factor, otherwise there will be huge risk for the project in quality, time and etc. Visiting supplier product facility give good insight regarding Supplier capabilities, commitment and responsibilities , provided that all issues to be observed (Engineering, Manufacturing, Procurement ,Quality assurance and control, R&D, Training, Safety, Organization Chart and etc). All the live procedures, records shall be checked and observed, make sure those procedures are being effectively followed during design, manufacturing and etc.

This includes tensile strength, corrosion resistance, or thermal conductivity, depending on the application. The first priority is to specify material of construction with detailed specification(s) or applicable standard(s) based on service conditions (Chemical compatibility, temperature, Corrosion mechanism, Pressure, applicable standard for design and construction, Project Specification and etc.) by Purchaser. In some cases we should entrust Supplier(s) to select material, because Supplier(s) has better insight to select competent material. In this case, let Supplier propose the material then check if it is suitable for the purpose and if it meets all project requirements (This need to be happen in bid stage, not after contract award). Note: Not possible to rely on Supplier who doesn’t have experience in past to produce similar Products
