As a BA, how can you manage risks and issues effectively?

An issue is an obstacle or challenge that's already present. A risk is a potential obstacle that may arise in the future but doesn't necessarily have to. Risk is a possibility of adverse deviation from the expected results. In general, if a project manager or business analyst identifies all the possible negative risks and their respective response plans within the project, then the possibility of issues can be drastically reduced. (i.e. prevention is better than cure). However, certain unforeseen situations may still arise that turn out to be issued. They could be certain potential risks that were unidentified in the past.

Communicate risks transparently, develop proactive mitigation strategies, and establish contingency plans for high-impact risks. The "And what else?" question is a powerful tool to help collect risks. The odds that you've gotten every risk out of your stakeholders in a one-time QA session are slim and asking the question 3 or 4 times can coax even more information out of those stakeholders. The bonus to this is that even off-the-wall suggestions about risks can be reflected later in the project and crossed off if they didn't happen. It's not underhanded to show that you've got a list of 50 risks that didn't happen.

As a liaison between business & tech the BA sees business problems first & understands pain areas. When formulating a solution or route to execution there will be expectations/assumptions made. These could be availability of -right skill resources -right stakeholders at right time -right tech/systems Projects get executed within set boundaries & constraints. Objective is execute with the means & with available resources. This gives rise to risks and if unhandled to issues. BA should maintain a risk log which can -be tracked/discussed in project updates -distributed to the key stakeholders This help risk tracking, action & closure. Unhandled risk when turn into an issue the project stakeholders will be aware & it would not be a surprise.
