One thing I would also recommend is to try and see the strengths of the team you will join: check their linked-in; publications; if you have met them, ask! This way you can have a clear plan on how to add value to the team with your skills and also how you can learn from them to grow professionally yourself. Then check if this alligns with the expectations of your supervisor so that you can have a conversation on goals early on that also showcases your value the team.

3 Brush up your skills

Management consulting requires a diverse set of skills, such as analytical thinking, data manipulation, presentation design, communication, and teamwork. A common mistake is to plan tasks in order of urgency or importance only. You need to also consider the time it takes to type of task: putting your calls, e mail checking, data analysis time together means you lose less time changing from one activity to another. Also it allows you to plan how much time you need and look for spaces that fit those tasks: have to make calls and know you might be stuck on traffic, plan your calls to that wasted time slot. It also allows you to plan how to divide in slots bigger tasks so that you are able to finish a piece and move to something than fits your available time and not leave things mid way that might make your day inefficient. Check the GTD methodology for this and adjust it to your context.

One of the biggest benefits of a management consulting internship is the opportunity to network and learn from a variety of people, both within and outside the firm. You should make an effort to build rapport and trust with your team members, your manager, your mentor, your coach, and your clients.
