The strongest impact is a solid IT foundation, skipping this can lead to playing catch up later on. Some of my colleagues that jumped from another industry or school straight into cyber security or information security have had a harder time because they have to spend time learning something they should have known already. It's not required but It makes it easier to investigate or find the solution when there is previous knowledge about Active Directory for example. Working a help desk job before working in security also helps with soft skills which many of us have a hard time with.

Even if you have no passion for leading a team, knowing how to apply leadership, ownership, and strategic mindsets can be a huge asset to anyone on an InfoSec team, whether entry level or top of the team. I think most of the other soft skills fall under this if you're a strong leader.
