You’ve just started a new QA role. What are the most important things to focus on?

You can go and check compitition products, whatch the product related videos and read blogs to gain more insights. You can also use tool like chat gpt to get more clarity.

A simple, but often forgotten thing. "Understand what you need to know or do." Don't just know what to do, understand what to do.

First thing is that interact with people and under the quality concepts of organisation, Also go through the plan Quality system, if any gap observed in the system provided the training to team and come out from the gaps with good planing and team management

Understand the product. Define the testing strategy. Collaborate with the team. Learn new skills. Seek feedback. Be the first to add your personal experience. Enjoy the process.

Intial few days, focus on the basic functionality of the product, try to explore the application with some test data, keep a learning journal or make pictorial representations, jot down questions, know a terse details on the technology stack, if automation is implemented start referencing the documentation. Optionally, it's good to spend an extra effort to swiftly accustom to the team and the product.

Create detailed test plans that cover different aspects of the product. Document test cases, expected results, and any specific testing scenarios. Understand the priorities of the team and manage your time efficiently.

A robust testing strategy is essential for systematically evaluating the quality of the product and minimizing the risk of defects slipping into production. To develop an effective testing strategy, I will begin by conducting a thorough analysis of the project requirements, specifications, and constraints. Based on this analysis, I will determine the appropriate testing methodologies, techniques, and tools that best suit the project's needs. Whether it's automated testing, exploratory testing, or a combination of both, I will tailor the strategy to strike the right balance between thoroughness and efficiency. Additionally, I will establish clear criteria for evaluating test results and prioritizing issues.

After learning about the product, spend some time understanding the QA process, the defect lifecycle, then the software development lifecycle. For that ask for access to existing documentation. Then learn how to use the tools used by QAs which include the defect and ticket reporting tool, the test case management system if available, and the automation tools used if any. After that, get to know the team you will be working with like other QAs, developers, BAs, product managers, product owners, project managers and scrum masters. Discuss with your manager or lead what role you will be undertaking as a QA and focus on getting up to speed with how you can fulfill your role.

As a QA, you naturally prioritize quality. Make sure your work reflects this by being thorough in your testing and taking pride in delivering high-quality results. This aligns with the core function of your role and demonstrates your commitment to the company's values?.

Establish strong communication and collaboration with team members, including developers, product managers, and fellow QA professionals. Building a positive working relationship contributes to a more effective testing process.

Successful QA is not a solitary endeavor but rather a collaborative effort that involves close coordination with cross-functional teams. As such, I recognize the importance of building strong relationships and fostering open communication channels with developers, product managers, designers, and other stakeholders. By actively engaging with the team throughout the development lifecycle, I can gain valuable insights into the product's development process, provide timely feedback, and advocate for quality-centric practices. Furthermore, collaboration enables us to align our goals, share knowledge and expertise, and collectively drive towards delivering a high-quality product that meets the needs and expectations of our users.

Agile teams work seamlessly, it's pivotal to liaise with the development team(Dev/QA) and other project teams to comprehend the project requirements and expectations. Ask the team, 1. Best practices followed as it varies with each organisation. 2. About the project/test management tools used and access requirements. 3. Liaise with the pertinent people, expound the problem and resolve. 4. Raise the flags to your supervisor of any delays.

Keep improving your skills, explore new testing methodologies, and stay open to feedback. This mindset will contribute to your professional growth. Attend conferences, webinars, and read relevant publications to stay current.

Learning is a never-ending journey. Sounds cliche but it's true. Be a fervent learner, with rapid technology advancements, it's important to spend some time in a day learning a new topic. Thanks to the QA Guru's on YouTube proffering free lessons, join the forums, subscribe to newsletters or anything which is viable to just keep an eye on what's going around in QA world.

First and foremost is to understand the processes and the reason they are designed that way. Trying to do too much and changing everything in a short span will backfire. Observe the processes and get into the system and then contribute to improve.

To seek feedback is a process that is easily understood - but are you prepared enough to accept the feedback??? ask yourself....very important to have an open mind and be mindful to have a balanced judgment on any feedback.

Moving into a new role is not easy- give yourself some time as you enjoy the new learning that is coming your way. the stressful learning will not stay with you for long.

As per my understanding, below are important things to be focus on new QA role: > Quality standards and regulations: Familiarize yourself with industry-specific quality standards and regulations relevant to your domain. >Strong Analytical Skills. > Defect management. >Continuous improvement: >Customer feedback and satisfaction. >Risk Management. >Knowledge of best practices. >Cross-functional collaboration. >Quality Auditing. >Good communication skills

The first thing that I would do is familiarize myself with the quality policy and with the team members. It’s also important understanding the company goals and values because this usually reflects on what the company expects from you.
