Networking is only the first step. But it's what you do next that builds your brand. How to leverage social media after networking: 1. Engage immediately - connect and express gratitude. 2. Share relevant content to showcase your expertise. 3. Highlight key interactions to solidify connections. Consistent follow-up turns brief encounters into lasting relationships.

When I'm at an event, I try and make a point to network and meet as many people as I can. But this is only the first step to building that relationship and strengthening your personal brand. I reach out to everyone I met usually within 48 hours on their LinkedIn messages and interact with any post that they do about the event I met them at. That way, it reminds them where we met, puts my contact information in front of them, and also lets them know I really appreciated meeting them! Usually this leads to another interaction via messaging, comments or looking forward to seeing them at the next event. Remaining authentic is key, and bringing in something fun you chatted about is also a great way for them to remember you.

Right after meeting new contacts, send personalized messages thanking them for the conversation. Mention specific points from your discussion to show genuine interest. Post articles, insights, or takeaways related to the event themes on your social media platforms. This not only showcases your expertise but also keeps the conversation going with your network. Share photos or updates from the event, tagging attendees and organizers. This visually strengthens your network ties and showcases your involvement. Participate in social media groups or forums related to the event themes. Engaging in discussions can further establish your presence in the community.

After meeting people, I connect on all social platforms. BUT don’t just connect, you still have to engage and communicate. Also, great tip: if it’s not awkward when you meet, take a picture. That way you can tag them in the post and they will then always remember how you first met. The key to cultivating relationships though is the follow up and reconnecting after the event for a call/zoom or coffee/meeting.
-
It's simple: Reach out on social media and ask, "How can I help you outside of just making a connection with each other?" Powerful networking results from an exchange of value. Offer to make other connections or introductions, offer to be available for advice or perspectives. Heck, give a vacation tip if asked. Truly effective networking is NOT transactional "Hey, can I connect with you?". Truly effective networking is based on relationship building. Be a value to others first.
