Identifying a Niche has pros and cons: 1. If you want to work as a freelancer, getting a niche is good to complete tasks VERY FAST and VERY WELL. Thus you can always find clients in your niche. 2. Learning your first technology and tools in a niche will develop you some credibility since you can actually start finding work - if it's for a company or as a freelancer. 3. Learning your first niche is a great way to boost your confidence and start developing from there! As Developers we need to strive to a round set of skills, niches are good but they won't make you last in your career, adaptability, learning and living the programming culture are far more important.

Remember, building a portfolio doesn’t mean making cool little projects on the side and then putting it in your portfolio once you’re done. It’s crucial that your results bring EYEBALLS, meaning that it’s used by the target audience, even at a small capacity. This will truly show that your work leads change!

A portfolio is important to showcase your skills. It's not just about showcase but actually showcasing your abilities. 1. Project to learn - your project will be poorly designed and maintained since your only goal was to learn a new technology. This is fun and all but won't help you showcasing it to a serious architect. 2. Project that solves a personal problem - These kind of projects are a good GO GO - you will actually learn problem solving skills and tie it to your technical skills. How does your technical skills solve real problems? 3. Your solution is to solve someone else's problem - JACKPOT! These kind of projects are priceless. If you were able to sell this solution - you can start calling yourself a professional.

After completing a boot camp, the goal should be getting a job as soon as possible. You don’t want to sit idly, watching more tutorials or building more projects. You want to put yourself in an environment where your new skills are employed and enhanced on a daily basis. Marketing yourself to create an opportunity for employment is therefore the best logical step/decision to take. You need to get the attention of your future employers. Networking is the part of marketing that helps build avenues for that attention. If you do a good job connecting with people in the industry and selling your self and skills (most importantly), you should in all likelihood get yourself a job in no time.
