You've finalized your CAD project drafts. How do you navigate a client's last-minute change requests?

Almost all practical design projects do include last minute changes. Sometimes it is analytical. Other times it is intuitive. While these changes can create panic, it is always better to communicate its impact. Minor tweaks won't create much issues. But, major changes such as changing design geometry, or material of a manufactured part involves a lot of time. It is always best to inform the client of the risk, time and money involved in these changes.

In this manner parametric design would be helpful. In which, in the time of changes you don’t beed to change your whole design and you only need to change some geometrical features or parameters.

Finally, one has to note that after making changes to the CAD projects, it is essential to guarantee the set quality of the end result to avoid compromising the integrity of the design or creating problems that will have to be addressed further. Based on my experience, and considering the improvements in additive manufacturing, it would be beneficial to learn generative design for complex geometries. In the future, with more advanced manufacturing techniques we would be able to produce complex parts with novel applications, therefore we need to learn generative design.

Therefore, CAD data is safeguarded through sound backup systems, is accessible throughout the design process, and remains a crucial part of the design process at all times.
