User journey is one of the most complicated challanges an R&D and PM team has to tackle before or during the R&D project of a new product or service. In my opinion is never straight forward and every time a different strategy should be followed to collect useful data in order to perform market segmentation. This can include surveys, the use of personas, or stories from potential customer figures. Those sometimes can be biased so never take for granted those info and try to combine datasets and methods to define your segment.
