1 Set clear goals

Before you start working with a coach, you need to have a clear idea of what you want to achieve. Do you want to learn the basics of agile, or do you want to master a specific framework, such as Scrum or Kanban? Do you want to improve your role as a team member, or do you want to become a leader or a facilitator? Do you have any specific challenges or problems that you want to solve with agile? Having clear and realistic goals will help you and your coach design a learning plan that suits your needs and expectations.

When I learned from my coach, I just learned as if I do not know anything about Agile. During course, I was evaluating my reactions to situations I faced in past Vs my coach explained how should I respond back to same going forward. Scrum Master is team player, catalyst, mentor and a teacher. While performing different role under a SM hat, you always have to take a pause and assess yourself if you are progressing and making contributions effectively to your team. What all the areas you feel needs improvement, share those with coach and you will get his learnings along with you to take it further.

2 Prepare for feedback

3 Practice by doing

Learning agile methodologies is not just about acquiring knowledge, but also about developing skills and habits. To do that, you need to practice by doing, not just by reading or watching. You need to apply what you learn in your real projects, and experiment with different tools and techniques. You also need to reflect on your practice, and learn from your successes and failures. Haciendo Agile es como se aprende a valorar si realmente Agile es lo que necesitas para ti y tu equipo porque Agile no es aplicable al 100% de los escenarios posibles. Haz Agile, no importa si mezclas cosas de Scrum con otras de Design Thinking, de incio de centras en 5 de los 12 principios, ... lo importante es empezar, probar y equivocarse y que detrás de cada éxito y de cada fracaso haya un aprendizaje. Serán esos aprendizajes y la constancia los que te lleven a mejorar, a crecer, a incorporar mejores técnicas y llegar a ser Agile.
