I get great feedback from newly onboarded engineers when they go through a well-designed workflow for their first 2 weeks. I use Asana but a spreadsheet works just as well. Create a template for all new hires and several sections for different roles, security, devops, etc. Assign team members different parts of the onboarding (tour of repositories by Fred...20 minutes) This gets communication and familiarity started faster and in a more meaningful way than a group intro where no one remembers everyone's name.
