Research Healthcare System: Start by researching the healthcare system of the country you're moving to. Understand whether it relies more on public or private healthcare services and what kind of coverage is typically expected for expatriates. Clarify Details with Employer: Ask your prospective employer about the healthcare benefits they offer. Get specific details about the coverage included, such as whether it covers only you or your family as well, what kinds of medical conditions and treatments are covered, and whether dental and vision care are included.

Most developing countries have two tier system - one suited for expats and other local country level 3. Consider language issues if western system is not available 4. If taking job as an expat most companies would provide international insurance suited for western type care 5. If taking local job as an American consider hsa or fsa. Cost of care in most countries is less than in USA.

First thing is to check out the healthcare provided in the country, as private health insurance might be needed to get good healthcare. Check with your potential employer if they offer health insurance, alternatively try and make it part of the package. If they make an offer, check the details, like pre-existing conditions, dental, cover for family.

Healthcare and HC-insurance is one of the most important things to consider when you work outside your home country. Make sure you understand your coverage and that it is not less as you would have at home, because costs of HC can spiral out of proportion in some countries quickly. I was an expat in the late 1990s and while abroad my wife was diagnosed with cancer. Being alone in a foreign country with no family support and in a foreign HC System is taxing enough in such a situation; financial issues do not have to increase the burden. Also make sure, that you have a commitment for coverage from your HC-insurance at home, to cover you again, regardless of your health situation! Being stuck abroad due to no HC-coverage at home is devastating
