1 Understand the brief

Before you start working on the project, make sure you understand the brief and the scope of work. Ask your client about the purpose, audience, tone, format, and deadline of the translation. Clarify any unclear or ambiguous terms, instructions, or specifications. Confirm the source and target languages, the word count, the file type, and the delivery method. If possible, request a sample of the text or a reference document to get a sense of the style and terminology.

Wie liefert man eine gute übersetzung? Es ist eigentlich ganz einfach. Drei Punkte sind dabei zu beachten. Sich mit dem Thema auskennen. Beide Sprachen gut beherrschen. Pünktlich liefern. Und das w?re es schon. Die Kunden haben keine Zeit, um kilometerlange E-Mails mit zig Erkl?rungen zu lesen. Wenn alles klappt, soll auch nichts erkl?rt werden. Less is more :-)

2 Plan your workflow

5 Seek feedback

When I was an assistant to the commercial and executive CEO, we went to visit a potential supplier. I was astonished when the supplier said that they were not sure if they would be able to cater such a big client and if they had the capacity for that. I thought to myself 'hey, how can he turn us down, he would earn a lot of money!'. Five years later, I became an entrepreneur and landed a huge project as a translator/interpreter for a huge foundation. The Ministry of Agriculture was the main beneficiary of the project. I already had many small clients, so while I was trying to juggle all that, I ended up in hospital. I also lost a big chunk of my clients because of that project. And now I understand what the supplier meant.
