You're tired of constant design revisions. How can you ensure clients understand your concepts clearly?

1. To setup early design review meetings with Client representatives to discuss each design discrepancy points prior to do the official submissions. 2. If necessary to bring the Vendor / Manufacturer to the meeting for better productivity.

1. Through successful meetings with owner, Engineer is to thoroughly define project objectives, client's knowledge about these objectives, client expectations for project duration, budget and quality of resources. 2. Engineer to prepare kind of project concept data book that conceptually describe features and specs of main project components including level-1 time schedule and expected budget. 3. after approval of design concept, schedule and budget, design execution process to be divided into key mile stones/stages. Get owner approval one each milestone prior to moving to the following milestone/stage. Presumably changes and revisions will not be eliminated but minimized to acceptable level.

One thing which I really found helpful is the joint review of the 3D model of design output at every milestone of the project for better understanding of client expectations and get timely feedback from the client as the project progresses. Presence of critical package manufacturer during such review meeting adds in responding to client queries and reducing no. of tags/comments significantly.

First we need to understand the basic thing the building or any other object which we are work, What is basic function is of the element and who is going to use/ work on it. As a civil engineer we need to understand the client expectations and requirement and give them best things to meet their expectation. One time one work method i will prefer at the time of any work , as a project engineer i have to work on many project but i will prefer the focus on one work at a time on which i am working

It is essential of doing things right the first time. Using the correct tools like 3D models and simulation can be a big help to remove the gap of understanding between clients expectations. It will eliminate delays and waste in producing a product or flawless process design.

Having advance copy review / joint review session can help to reduce the number of formal revision cycles. I have been on both sides, as the document Originator and document Reviewer (Client). The Originator shall do proper self check to ensure the quality is up to the expectation of the Client, and can avoid unnecesary document revisions due to minor errors. If the comments not understood, always contact the Client to clarify and agree on the comment resolutions.

Action: Provide comprehensive documentation. Example: Along with presentations, I provided detailed documents that outlined the design specifications, user benefits, and technical details of the wheelchair-bed. These documents served as reference materials that clients could review at their convenience.

Before starting the design work, require a detailed brief from the client. This should include their goals, preferences, and any specific requirements. A well-defined brief ensures that you have a complete understanding of the project, reducing the likelihood of revisions later on.

Providing clear documentation will be more helpful to minimize rework on design. In addition to that, before the design work, it is better to have a proper discussions and submitting design brief will be helpful to minimize changes.

Break down the scope elements to understand the client requirements. Review the client's scope document or user requirements. Set up a scope clarification meeting with the client and all the relevant project stakeholders.Record decisions taken. During the concept phase, engage the client, involve them in progress meetings and design review meetings, show them your conceptual drawings, presentations and take their comments into account. Understand their preferences in terms of OEM equipment, spares holding, maintenance of the equipment, OEM training on the equipment. Reliability, Availability and Maintenability assesment of the design solution is important. Also discuss and assess constructability of the solution during conceptual phase.

The best to make your client help to understand the design needs and how the design requirements have been met in the final revision. This is the best and the fastest way to communicate them in an interactive sessions while documenting all the important points in a minutes of meeting so that a record should also be maintained for finalization of design.

Online commenting platforms: Use tools that allow clients to provide specific feedback on design elements. Interactive prototypes: Create interactive prototypes to help clients visualize the final product.

Somethings are simplified with face-to-face interactions, that way both you and the client bounce ideas off each other, there's clarity on the way forward and you save time.

My experience shows that developing a draft or sketch, rich in details and submitted to client approval, during personal interaction, reduces design revisions a lot.

The feed back mechanism is absolute necessary to allign client's expectations and designers approach and thought. Review cycle must be short and prompt. Discipline leads must meet regularly to share, exchange ideas.

One thing I have found helpful is using 3D for reviews and communications. PDMS or any agreeable real time software by the client. It's gives a clear picture of the project as the work progress which also keeps a tap on project delivery time

In my experience, a short presentation that highlights the reasons behind your design decisions can be very effective. By clearly explaining the rationale and goals of your choices, you help clients grasp the concepts more easily, reducing misunderstandings and minimizing the need for constant revisions.

Action: Use comparison charts. Example: I created comparison charts that highlighted how our design differed from existing products. This clarified the unique advantages of our design and helped clients see its value more clearly.
