I think there are enough tools and resources offered by various Automation tool vendors and it is important to get that perspective to code effectively using that specific tool. However, as a starting point it is even more important to understand the real capabilities of automation. It is a combination of applying close review to eliminate unwanted steps, apply measures to reduce lead time, standardize data formats/data collection etc which can eventually help to identify continuous streams of steps that can be automated. In most cases we would not directly get a process to be automated but a combined effort of BA, developers and client stakeholders to have this eagle view of the process to identify the specific steps to be automated

Its really important to identify people and their fit for any technical tool training as mass trainings doesn't really give quality output. Identifying right tool to right person is important so that we can be focused without over burdening or being defocused. And then tailoring the content that's required with the organisations requirement context can improve the result.
