The key to any integration, either legacy or modern platform, is thorough internal IT testing, QA, and UAT. Understanding the testing criteria of the inter-platform variables and interactions before the project starts is imperative, this is only accomplished through forming a project plan and scope document that is reviewed by all key stakeholders, not just senior staff. Legacy systems usually have been tweaked and honed over many years and lack accurate or relevant product documentation, further they are generally used for critical / core business processes and workflows. Passing the final UAT is reliant on confirmation that the integration will perform as required, the end users need to be deeply involved in that process.
