Always have a plan of attack. Always have a list of the requirements and brainstorm how you will meet those requirements. Think about what issues you might run into and who you might need to reach out to. All of this needs to be done beforehand to ensure the most seamless project process. Planning ahead does not give a head start on a project, it is THE start of the project. There will still be hiccups and new obstacles along the way but a detailed plan eliminates as many possibilities as possible. A plan of attack set before hand creates a model for success and you can learn from it during and after the project.

Definition of chip architecture is the very first step after a specification and foundry process have been agreed on. After that, a breakdown of definable modules withing the chip is done. From there, a resource assessment versus the modules needing to be designed can be made.

The AI is wrong. Power distribution within a chip is usually done after the various internal modules have been designed and laid out. Inspection of the design module list will usually result in finding what modules are difficult to execute on and which are easily done. Estimates on design time per module serve as a starting point to developing a product development timeline.
