I built and managed large awarding trucking operations for 20 years before starting TRANSCOM. I also wrote a 68 Hour Dispatcher / Supervisor Course that we have ran almost 200 times. Most dispatchers that we have met have little knowledge or even desire, to effectively deal with their Professional Drivers. Our industry has evolved into a load board / load broker environment, and many dispatchers have intermittent dialogue with Drivers. We have also tried pushing all Driver training, to the net with YouTube, Samsara & Carriers Edge. None of these are bad, but we have pushed the actual relationship with Professional Drivers to the back burner in too many companies. Real communication between Dispatch and Drivers needs improvement.

Based on my many years of experience in Public and private transit. I recommend that they focus on clear, real-time updates: Also, drivers should relay accurate information on location, road conditions, and expected delays, while dispatchers can support by providing alternative routes, adjusting schedules, and managing client expectations. Using technology like GPS tracking and instant messaging platforms helps everyone stay informed, coordinated, and responsive, reducing stress and fostering teamwork even amidst gridlock.

When organizing a response we should focus on 6 crucial areas (the 6 C's) 1-----Crew. Assess how and where logistics labor is disrupted and to ensure the safety of workers who execute operations. 2-----Capacity. Look into expanding capacity through other modes and transportation routes. Evaluate different options with care, 3-----Collaboration. During a disruption, logistics must work collaboratively and efficiently with both the internal supply chain and external logistics partners. 4-----Cost. Constrained supply has a significant impact on cost. 5-----Community. Tap the resources of your logistics partners to secure your networks, 6----Customer. Communicate regularly and transparently with your customers during disruptions.
