There are a number of ways to track your data. I have used email folders, spreadsheets, and currently I use Teal’s job tracker, which is free. I personally track the date of application, employer, position title, original URL of the posting, and I copy/paste the full job description. I add notes (ie follow up messages), and results of each step along the process.

Nope. You can build a mountain of data and still not be effective. Invest your time in understanding this: 1) The most critical parts of a job posting. 2) How to evaluate if you are truly qualified. 3) "Matching" your resume to the job posting so the match is clear. Better to do this, and send out 50 applications, than to create an elegant tracking system and send out 800 ineffectual applications.

I strongly believe in setting goals but they need to be SMART so that people don't get demoralised and feel a sense of achievement.

Very helpful. SMART is the way to go. Reviewing and tweaking goals is something I'm doing on my weight loss journey. Set goal, make goal, reset the goal for the new you.

It's time consuming, but also a very good idea. You should already be documenting every company you've applied to and the resume/cover letter you used! After each interview call, identify what you did to get that interview. During the interview, identify what resonated with each person in the interview process and try to repeat that process the next time. As you reflect and find that something's not working for you, it's time to expand your repertoire. That means trying things that you might have never tried before, even it falls outside your comfort zone. This might mean adding things to your resume you've never considered or responding to interview questions with a different twist. Figure out what works for you and document!

I like this idea - my lack of securing an interview had a lot to do with recruiters from Central Asia contacting me, calling repeatedly to get the resume (why can't I put the accents on the "e"s) they want EXACTLY, then ghosting me. Stressed me out for that day into the next. Plus they had access to ALL my email addresses, not the one on my resume. I couldn't keep up with it.
