Conditioning and routines are an important part of our psychology. When you are conditioned to study in a dedicated area (the advantage of an office) it is much more easier to concentrate. Make sure your work environment is properly lit, distraction free and you provide a psychological connection between the environment and working.

Setting boundaries is absolutely essential, especially in remote work. From my experience, without clear work-life separation, burnout can creep in quickly. Early in my career, I struggled with this—work hours stretched into personal time, and my productivity dropped. Now, I set a fixed schedule and communicate it clearly with everyone around me. Explain your household members about your rules and why you need them. From an outside perspective even if they know you are working they may not feel like you are working. Explaining what you do can sometimes help for them to understand why you need this. Also it is important for you to decide for yourself when to work and when to rest. Working more does not always lead to more productivity especially if you are doing a creative job.

In fact, tools like Git have allowed my teams to integrate code and design changes smoothly, preventing costly rollbacks or miscommunication. In my experience, real-time communication platforms like Slack or MS Teams paired with project management tools like Jira or Trello have kept everyone aligned, from sprint planning to daily stand-ups. These tools streamline tracking tasks, dependencies, and progress, allowing us to solve issues faster and maintain accountability. Being proficient in these tools has been a key factor in delivering projects on time while ensuring high-quality work.

You should have a preferred way of communication with your team that supports synchronous (voice and video calls) and asynchronous (messages that you look at when you prefer). Check if your IDE has a collaborative mode that you can pair program it can make the experience even better than sitting side by side. I also personally like collaborative drawing tools during discussions.

If you have the flexibility sometimes taking time to learn a more suitable tool or library for the job can cost you some hours in the short term but will save you hours in the long run.

I try to set some time to see if I can do anything to speed up other peoples work or jump around some ideas. This does not check task of your list but when this is encouraged in the team everyone will be checking of more tasks and get stuck less. It also helps to understand other peoples work and allows for more flexible planning.

I’ve found that over-communication is vital in remote settings just be mindful about your team mates too so that didn't annoyed by your frequent calls /pings. Regular check-ins and seeking feedback not only keep everyone aligned but also create a strong collaborative culture, even when working apart.
