You're struggling to prioritize self-care. How can you set realistic goals without the guilt?
In the hustle of professional life, self-care often takes a backseat. To set guilt-free self-care goals, consider these strategies:
- Identify non-negotiables. Determine what aspects of self-care are essential to your well-being and make them priorities.
- Set small, achievable targets. Break down larger goals into manageable tasks to avoid feeling overwhelmed.
- Schedule self-care time. Treat it like any other important appointment by blocking out time in your calendar.
What strategies do you find effective for integrating self-care into a busy schedule?

It can be really tough to prioritize self-care without feeling guilty, especially when you're juggling a lot of responsibilities. Here’s how you can set more realistic goals while keeping guilt at bay: Define Your Self-Care Needs: Take some time to think about what you actually need rather than what you think you should be doing. Self-care can be different for everyone—sometimes it’s taking a walk, journaling, or simply resting. Be specific about what truly helps you recharge. Start Small & Be Gentle: Don’t try to overhaul everything at once. Start with manageable goals. If you haven’t been taking care of yourself, maybe it's as simple as scheduling 15 minutes of quiet time a day. Small steps are progress!

Feeling overwhelmed by self-care? The key is to start small and be VERY kind to yourself. Begin by identifying one area of self-care that matters most to you right now. Is it sleep, exercise, or something we tend to forget, like water intake? Set a tiny, achievable goal. For example, if it's sleep, aim for just 15 minutes earlier bedtime this week. Track your progress without judgment. Be proud when managing small wins and adjust as needed. Self-care isn't selfish—it's essential. By taking care of yourself, you're better equipped to handle your challenges and support others. Reframe guilt as an opportunity for growth. Each step towards self-care is an investment in your well-being.

Guilt is often misunderstood. In this example, it's the emotional experience of change causing the discomfort, which is actually a sign we're making the correct decision to prioritise self care. Because we unconsciously carry the weight of our conditioned patterns and beliefs (i.e. I'm not worthy of change, it's not safe to prioritise myself etc.), staying the same feels safer than breaking free into new behaviours and experiences. It's not about getting rid of the guilt, it's about choosing self care despite it. That's how we evolve.

One thing I’ve found helpful for me is create boundaries around your work. Have non-negotiable habits around when you eat, sleep and exercise. Those habits will help define when you’re available for work, although don’t forget to factor in time for family, self-development, and general life management. You could put some rough plans in your calendar to help you form these habits.
