When I was into Social work practice, I had cases, both in Case work and Group work, where I faced difficulty in enhancing client outcomes, and the strategies that worked for me were, I focused more on building a trusting relationship. I actively listened to their concerns, and tailored interventions to their specific needs. Additionally, I used strength-based approaches (involving their family and friends), set achievable goals together, and regularly checked in on progress to ensure continuous engagement and motivation.

Engaging clients is challenging. If they are not willing to engage it becomes quite clear that making any meaningful change is going to be hard as they are not willing to change. In these cases, I would try to do what I can. Work with what i can do. But i also wouldn't go out of my way either. I would try to find a balance. Sometimes service users need to understand that they need help, and actively seek help themselves rather than just being told to go get help. The healing process is different for everyone and some need space.... I also would document everything. Documenting their engagement is important as 1) it shows you are trying 2) there may be a pattern. Perhaps the service user engages better using a specific method.
