In the past 5 years of running global team and networking events, I've seen my fair share of disruptive team members! Something that has worked well for me outside of the standard setting expectations before or at the start of the call, is holding the disruptor back after sending everyone to a breakout room or creating a breakout room with just the 2 of us during an activity and having a genuine conversation coming from a place of help. Sometimes people just want to be heard, and other times they may not realize their disruptive nature. It just takes a quick perception check to understand the situation and create a path to move forward! I hope this helps!

I am a direct person and feel that being direct is the simplest way to go, simply let them know if it keeps up they will have to be let go, sent to another department no enter any meetings etc. If they value their position things will change or things will change

If a disruption occurs, I address it politely, refocus the group, and ensure we stay on track. Being proactive and prepared with backup plans also helps minimize the impact of unexpected disruptions.

First, I would schedule a private one-on-one conversation with the individual to address the issue in a calm and non-confrontational manner. It’s important to avoid calling them out publicly during the calls, as this could embarrass them and lead to defensiveness. During our conversation, I would express empathy and frame the feedback constructively, focusing on how their behaviour impacts the team's dynamics and productivity. I would begin the conversation by acknowledging their contributions to the team, ensuring they don’t feel solely criticized. Continuing in the reply section...
