In my experience, aligning with all the teams early on sets expectations very clear, especially in larger companies the content team has to manage their own list of tasks and requests they receive from multiple teams in advance. In smaller team, I believe the designer should be writing the content as well. There's no one that better understands the need for content than a designer. In teams that are small, waiting for a content writer could slow down the pace. To move fast I would look upto the product designer to write simple versions of content.
