This is how you can begin: Create a warm, inviting atmosphere by showing genuine empathy and active listening. Set clear expectations, respect privacy, and use open-ended questions to encourage clients to share. Follow up on previous discussions to show commitment, and let them see your authentic side. A stable setup with good eye contact, plus small gestures like nodding, helps foster a strong, trustful connection.

If it is virtual coaching, we can expect the trouble of connecting with the client. I would suggest a deliberate preparation for this type of engagement. - A face to face introductory session (if possible). During this time 'getting to know' the coachee has to be attempted. I will dine with him/her, spend time casually. - If the above is not possible, then I will schedule couple of additional sessions where I will spend time with the coachee with an objective of building rapport and trust. I will suggest talking about him and me as people. Do this over a lunch (he eating there, I eating here), Try and build the rapport / trust over 2/3 sessions. - Then start coaching.
